What is a Guardian ad Litem?
Modified on: 2/12/2008

A Guardian ad Litem (or, GAL) is typically a person appointed by a court to represent the best interests of minor children involved in a legal dispute. In Massachusetts, a GAL might be an attorney or a licensed mental health professional such as a doctor or a social worker.
